Dining Out with Baby at The Beverly on Locke
Last week we has one of those days. A 'fall asleep in the car during what would have been my window to eat lunch (and do approximately 20853 other tasks)' kind of day. Of course she woke up grumpy, so I packed her into the stroller in hopes that a long walk in the fresh spring air would lull her into a little more sleep. Yeah Right. By 2:00 I realized, I hadn't had more than a flung banana and a few crust nibbles, thus the cacophony emanating from my mid-section.
We decided to try a new spot in our hood, The Beverly on Locke. The super cute red-orange branding had caught my eye a few months ago, but despite a few attempts to visit, I was thwarted by the packed house! Amazing for them, not so great for Britt. Since babies are the worst at waiting for tables in a packed restaurant, we had to keep trying. Also, no one wants to be THAT person who brings a now unhappy baby into a jammed spot! Turns out, I shouldn't have been too worried (more on that later).
As a brunch specialist, The Beverly has all the best kinds of food, sweet AND savoury, hot AND cold and no one will judge you if you order coffee AND wine AND water (AKA the Mom Trifecta). My tiny date and I showed ourselves to the small table in the back near the toys and books. Open the Mum Mums, offer some never before seen toys, and silence!
The menu had everything you could want in a brunch. To be honest, I love a burger with an egg at Brunch, though my sweet-foods-at-brunch-loving husband will disagree that such an item belongs on the menu in the first place. While I blissfully contemplated the existential quandary of brunch burgers, my little lady was happily chattering away to the other patrons who didn't seem to notice or mind there was a baby in their midst. This was shaping up to be a relaxing brunch date!
I ordered the Tomato Sandwich on whim and was so pleased. It was a reverse of the childhood favourite of Grilled Cheese dunked into tomato soup. Except the tomatoes were a silky jam on sourdough bread and the cheese was warm soup with the best texture! Because I'm a grown up now, I washed it down with a local Collective Arts Cider. Accompanied by an entertained babe, it was a perfect solve to my empty belly and a really lovely way to pass an afternoon.
During our meal, Erin the super friendly face of the place, stopped by our table to chat with Fin. After offering her the soggy bread in her fist, (which Erin somehow managed to very graciously decline), we chatted about the Beverly behind the name. I won't give away the details, but she seems like a lady you'd like to know. Stop by for a visit and find out more for yourself.
Overall, the creative menu, the easy atmosphere and the new to us toys, make The Beverly on Locke a wonderful place for an anytime meal with your littlest foodies. I know we'll be back!
