Hi.

I'm just another mom, trying my best not to be basic.

My Favourite Makeology Purchases

My Favourite Makeology Purchases

Here's the thing, when you say I can shop for handmade goods in a beautiful old building, I'm going to be there with bells on and credit card at the ready. Lucky for me, that exact opportunity presented itself in the form of last weekend's Almost Summer Makeology Craft Fair at the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology. This was the fifth such market by this group of likeminded makers (the others occurring around the Winter Holidays) but my first time actually being able to attend. I will NEVER miss one again! It was so full of beautiful things, yummy food, and such a great venue!

I was super excited to to meet a few of my Instagram maker crushes in person- specifically the insanely beautiful kimono creations from Elle Mair Co and the dainty wrist jewels from Mai Lin Jewelry. However, there were plenty of vendors that received my dollars that day!

Sure enough, I found myself a few kimonos immediately, and had to make some life or death decisions. I settled on one ethnic print cotton kimono that will be great over a black dress or bathing suit through the summer or distressed jeans an boots in the fall. Lauren, the beautiful mastermind behind these pieces, makes each one by hand, is her own model, and is super cool to chat with. Some people really have it all, huh? Try as I might, I cannot get a photo that will do this beauty justice. Keep your eyes peeled for it in approximately ALL my Instagram stories this summer. Or click on over to Elle Mair Co.'s website and look around for yourself.

Next up, I found myself fighting the crowds at the Mai Lin Jewelry booth, where the loveliest little friendship bracelets were on display. After humming and hawing over all the choices, I settled on a coral thread with turquoise and gold beads. Marlissa, the genius who took everyone's favourite 6th grade hobby and turned it into a business, was sweet enough to tie my bracelet on me so that it will 'stay on forever'. I'm not even mad about this level of commitment to a bracelet. They are that cute with everything.

As if that wasn't enough, I found myself at the Coco and Rex booth, buying the sweetest feather print romper and headbands for my little lady. Its been a bit cool for the romper yet, but the headbands have been a huge hit. Despite my constant attempts, Finley has never entertained a headband longer than a few seconds. She wore her neon yellow bow from Coco and Rex for a miraculous 20 minutes. The future looks bright!

And don't think I forgot about dear husband. He got a little treat too...but that shall have to wait until father's day.

Not only is supporting small makers a great boost to your local economy, it is also a way to feel good about your purchases. Knowing the people and the story behind your favourite stuff just makes it that much better, no?

Tell me, did you attend this year's Almost Summer Market? What did you find?
